Ways To Stop Panic Attacks and What To Do

If you are looking for efficient ways to stop a panic attack, then you’ve come to the right place. In this article, we will give you various proven remedies for stopping panic attacks and preventing them from taking over your life.

You do have to realize that people react differently to panic attack treatments so a particular remedy that works perfectly for someone need not necessarily be the best treatment for you. In other words, you may have to try a few different ways to stop a panic attack but with patience and determination, you will certainly find at least one of the following treatments that will work well for your situation.

Things to Avoid

First and foremost, you should avoid reaching for over-the-counter medications each time because this is definitely not among the best ways to stop a panic attack. Most OTC medications for panic attacks contain addictive ingredients and so in your effort to quell the attack before it happens, you may actually be creating a more serious and long-term problem for yourself in the process.

Isolating yourself from the world is another common mistake that people make in their effort to avoid panic attacks. They think that separating themselves from every single thing that may be stressful or can cause anxiety is one of the best ways to stop a panic attack but that is not the case. By avoiding your problem, you are only making it worse in the long run.

What You Should Do

Now that the don’ts are out of the way, let us now focus on the things that you should do in order to solve your panic attack problems. The first step is to consult with your doctor. If necessary, you will be given a prescription for the right medication that you can use to control the attacks.

Another important step you can take is to make positive changes to your diet and your exercise routines. By eating healthy foods and exercising regularly, you can actually reduce your body’s anxiety levels, and inadvertently reduce your risk of suffering from panic attacks as well.

For more serious cases, it would be a great idea to find yourself a qualified psychotherapist or counselor who can work hand in hand with you in dealing with your situation one step at a time. By going into a series of in-depth discussions, together you will be able to come up with ways to stop a panic attack that will work well for your particular situation.

Stop Anxiety and Panic Attacks By Dealing With Stress

When you’re trying to deal with stress, it can feel as if the world is falling down around your shoulders. Often, this can be hard enough to deal with on it’s own, but when you are suffering from anxiety and panic attacks, stress can be the last thing you need in your life. It’s time to take control of your world again and stop the anxiety and panic attacks that plague your daily life by taking control of the stress that you’re forced to deal with day after day.

It is thought that stress can be a trigger to many episodes of anxiety and panic attacks, so the theory is that you need to do away with the stress in your life in order to stop anxiety and panic attacks. See, it’s not stress alone, the cause of anxiety has more to do with the way you deal with stressful situations in your life. So, some people deal with stress just fine. It “rolls off their backs”, so to speak, while others who are prone to anxiety take that stress and hold in.

When people who are prone to anxiety have too much stress in their lives, their bodies never really get to decompress, which means that their adrenaline is constantly pumping into their bodies. The overflow of adrenaline, which is ordinarily good for us, can cause big problems in the body if we aren’t able to make it stop when we need it to. This is where anxiety and panic attacks come from and the best way to stop the adrenaline in the body is to find ways to reduce the amount of stress we feel in our daily lives.

So, in order to stop anxiety and panic attacks, we have to learn how to stop stress from building up in our lives. The question for many is how they can possibly do this and it really is a good question. De-stressing takes practice and sometimes needs to be done several times a day in order to achieve the desired results, but with time, you will find that you suffer from less and less stress.

You should start with deep breathing exercises. Find a quiet place, sit down and close your eyes. Take a deep, slow inhale while counting to 10. On the exhale, count backwards from 10 to one. Repeat this several times while you clear your mind of everything except something pleasant. Stop when you feel your blood pressure come down.

Another way to eliminate stress to effectively stop anxiety and panic attacks is to practice feeling grateful. For this you will also need a quiet place and you should be able to lie down. Cross your arms over your chest or just rest your hand on your heart. Then, with your eyes closed, think of something for which you are grateful. Continue thinking of this thing, person or place and how it makes you feel. Visualize it and let yourself feel the way you feel when you are around it.

While these are just a couple of ways to reduce the amount of stress, these two techniques, when followed faithfully and done as many times daily as you may need can help you to stop anxiety and panic attacks. So, take the time to de-stress once in a while and see how much better you feel from now on. Your life is waiting for you.
