Generalized Anxiety DisorderYou may be someone that cannot see anxiety as being a bad thing…and yes, there are many times when anxiety can stimulate your adrenaline and can improve your thinking and response time.

However when you suffer from constant anxiety, it can trigger anxiety and panic attacks. This is not easy to deal with.

These are a physical reaction to having too much adrenaline running through your body and they are not something you want to have to deal with constantly.

General anxiety disorder often is the result of having too many stressors and not being able to adequately deal with the problems which arise in every day life.

General anxiety disorder doesn’t really have a known cause, but there are things that can trigger reactions in people. For example, the chemistry of our brain, environmental stressors and whether or not you are genetically predisposed to feel anxiety.

For diagnosis of this disorder, symptoms must last at least 6 months. This excessive worry often interferes with daily functioning, as individuals suffering GAD typically anticipate disaster, and are overly concerned about everyday matters such as health issues, money, death, family problems, friendship problems, interpersonal relationship problems, or work difficulties.

Individuals often exhibit a variety of physical symptoms, including fatigue, fidgeting, headaches, nausea, numbness in hands and feet, muscle tension, muscle aches, difficulty swallowing, bouts of difficulty breathing, difficulty concentrating, trembling, twitching, irritability, agitation, sweating, restlessness, insomnia, hot flashes, and rashes and inability to fully control the anxiety.

These symptoms must be consistent and on-going, persisting at least six months, for a formal diagnosis of GAD to be introduced. Article source

For instance, environmental stressors would include stressful days in your life which you have no solution to, such as financial problems and family problems. Your brain chemistry can also affect how well you deal with anxiety because some times, our brain doesn’t produce enough of the essential hormones which can help to regulate how happy we feel.

If your mother suffers from general anxiety disorder, then it’s a possibility you will too.
