OCD or obsessive compulsive disorder is a common mental problem that does not target any single age group, gender, race or social status. It is a condition that can develop in any individual and currently affects millions of people all over the world.

The exact manifestations of OCD can be very diverse, although the symptoms almost always involves unnatural compulsive behavior, like washing the hands several times a day or calling the kids every few minutes just to check that they are fine.

It is therefore good to know that there are several OCD medication options that can now be used to manage the symptoms and provide relief.

OCD Medications – What Are The Options?

There are many different kinds of OCD medications that may be used. Each of these options may have a different effect on different people so it is hard to tell which one is most effective. One of the most commonly prescribed type of OCD medication is the SSRI or selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor.

  • Studies have shown that people suffering from OCD have much lower serotonin levels than normal.

SSRI medications increase the amount of serotonin in the brain, reducing the symptoms of the disorder. Some of the FDA-approved SSRI medications available today are Zoloft, Paxil, Anafranil and Prozac. They come with negative side effects!

There are of course natural serotonin supplements, which are preferred by many people as they have no addictive side effects, like there are with many traditional medicines. Due to possibility of side effects, doctors are usually very conservative in prescribing dosages of these Obsessive Compulsive Disorder medications to patients.

If intense positive results are seen right away, the dosage may be tapered down even further. Otherwise, the dosage may be increased slightly until positive results are observed. In order to minimize the risk of adverse side effects, the dosage of medicines for OCD should not be changed without the recommendation of a doctor.

Natural Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Treatments

As mentioned, there are negative side effects with the use of traditional medications. This is why some people are now opting for safer natural treatments.

One of the most popular natural treatments is cognitive behavioral therapy. With the help of a psychotherapist, a person can gradually learn how to deal with their symptoms of OCD.

Some people also opt to use herbal medicines or other alternative medications in lieu of traditional OCD medications.

These natural medicines for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, such as Compulsin, help with providing relief in a natural way.

They help fight symptoms of anxiety and nervousness, obsessive and compulsive thoughts, fearfulness and worry. Another point about this natural medicine is that it is also safe for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder in children.

Hi Brenda, if you are looking for a natural medicine, this one could certainly be one for you to consider.

My doctor wanted to give me a prescription for my OCD but I said no, I wanted to see if there was any other way first. He actually told me he didn’t thing there were any natural treatments for OCD except behavioral therapy.

As I have used homeopathic remedies in the past I automatically assumed there would have to be something for relaxing my compulsions and easing my rituals.

I am certainly going to give this a try as it was exactly what I was looking for. I am not going to ask you if it works, because if it didn’t work for at least some people you wouldn’t be talking about it…that’s my guess anyway.

OCD makes my wife’s life unbearable (not to mention my own) so if this natural formula works, even just a little bit it will be worth every penny.

    • Hi Daniel,

I am so pleased to hear you wanted to try a natural OCD medicine first.

If it helps ease your compulsions and doesn’t give you the unhealthy side effects like traditional medications do, then you win twice!

  3. Hi Jennifer- Ocd is causing my belly aches again…I hate this so much 🙁 Help me over come this!!!!!! It makes me feel horrible!!!!

    • Hi Lauren,

I will help you as much as I can…I promise.

Now firstly, I have to ask, have you been doing the techniques I have already talked to you about?

For example have you been rubbing your tummy as I described to you before and how it was shown in the video? As you know your IBS acts up from your OCD and anxiety, so it will help soothe and calm you and your belly.

Next, have you been keeping a journal and writing everything down so you know if it’s your diet…or perhaps too much Facebook?

This is the only way I can help you Lauren. You have to see what triggers you the most. I know sometimes you can calm yourself, but when you get this upset, you have to pinpoint the ‘why’.
