Dopamine and Serotonin and Your Emotional Health

What Are The Health Benefits of Dopamine and Serotonin?

Our body requires the right levels of dopamine and serotonin to make us feel anxiety and stress free. These two chemicals are both necessary for the promotion of our emotional wellbeing. You probably have heard them called our ‘happiness hormones‘.

Serotonin Supplements

Some of the most useful functions of serotonin in the human body are to improve mental alertness, to boost concentration and to build a more positive mental attitude.

Dopamine, on the other hand, is largely responsible for increasing one’s confidence and for maintaining emotional balance.

Now that we know what dopamine and serotonin can do for us, it is also important to understand what these chemical substances are in the first place.

Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that is produced by the neurons in the body and are found in tissues all over the body.

Dopamine is also a neurotransmitter found in the brain. It is also a hormone that is vital to the cognitive and behavioral processes, among other functions in the body.

Both dopamine and serotonin are naturally produced by the body and when found in normal amounts, they enable you to manage stress, grief and other negative emotions in a positive way. Dopamine and serotonin levels in the body can also fluctuate due to old age, unresolved grief, frequent exposure to stress, and many other factors.

Natural Ways To Increase Your Dopamine and Serotonin Levels

You can increase the production of dopamine and serotonin by making improvements to your diet. Foods high in Trytophan are excellent for incresing serotonin levels. In particular, you should increase your intake of foods that promote serotonin and dopamine production while avoiding foods that inhibit it.

Some of the ‘anxiety and depression mood foods‘ that can increase the production of dopamine are bananas, sesame seeds, lima beans, avocados, almonds, pumpkin and dairy products.

  • Dopamine can also be taken from meat proteins, egg whites and nuts.
  • Serotonin, on the other hand, can be increased by eating meats, such as turkey. In particular, the L-tryptophan found in meats are essential in the production of serotonin.

If you regularly eat a balanced diet, there’s a good chance that you already have healthy levels of dopamine and serotonin.

If you want to further increase the levels of these chemicals in your body, you can also increase your consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as whole grains.

  • There are also many natural remedies and anxiety supplements that can be used to improve the production of dopamine and serotonin.

There are many natural treatments and supplements made from herbal extracts, that have no artificial ingredients. By eating the right ‘anxiety reducing foods‘ and taking a natural supplement if necessary, you may experience a noticeable improvement in your emotional wellbeing.
