Believe it or not, teenagers are some of the most stressed out people on the planet. With the need to be popular, get good grades and doing all the things their parents don’t want them to do without getting caught, it’s a wonder that more of them don’t land in the hospital. Many of these kids have different ways of thinking and a different set of responsibility rules, so in many ways they are better able to deal with stress, but that doesn’t mean that they don’t feel it too.

How to Tell If Your Teenager Is Stressed

If you look at almost any teenager, especially teenage girls and you will begin to see that they are pretty easy to see through. Take a close look at your teenage child and you might begin to see some of the telltale signs of stress. For instance, many teenagers don’t sleep very well, but do you see the signs. Some kids have visible dark shadows under their eyes or they can show puffy eyes. This is a sure sign that your child is going through something. If you aren’t sure, you might want to take your teen in for a good check up and talk to the doctor about the troubles your teen might be having.

You might also be able to tell that you teenager is stressed because of their personality. People who are stressed tend to snap at others for what seems like no reason. Now, keep in mind that many teenagers are naturally defensive in nature, but keep an eye out for when your kid starts to get snappy or short tempered.

You can also tell if your teen is stressed by their overall body language. It might look like your kid cannot really relax or holds back when interacting with people. This is an indicator that he is suffering from stress.

Stress and Teenagers – What You Can Do

Sometimes, even though your teenager is having a stressful time, the best thing you can do is offer them support, but other times, it’s important to make time for your teen and let them talk if they need to. By giving them the support they need and a non-judgmental ear to talk to, you are teaching them how to properly deal with the stress that they have in their lives effectively.

Another way that you can help your teen to deal with stressful situations is to try to teach them how to handle stress. By teaching them how to deal with different types of situations which can cause your kids discomfort, you are giving them the tools to avoid and deal with stressful situations if they occur.

Your teenager is probably going through as much stress as you are, so it’s important that you learn how to help your teenagers to manage their stress just like you need to manage yours. It doesn’t matter how old you are, how rich or poor you are or how attractive you are. It hits everyone, all the time, so teaching your kids how to deal with it early on might be one of the best things you can do when helping your teenager to find stress relief.
