Severe panic attacks can ruin a person’s life. They are serious and should be acknowledged as being so. They can require having therapy and perhaps there will be a need for medication. Recognizing the symptoms is important when it comes to coping with the attacks.

The Physical Symptoms Of Severe Panic Attacks

The physical symptoms of severe panic attacks are hard to miss. The one most easy to identify for someone actually suffering from an attack is an increase in heart rhythm known as a heart palpitation. This can cause severe chest pain. People also experience weakness that can lead to fainting as well as severe nausea. They even start to perspire a lot. All of these are the most common symptoms of severe panic attacks.

The Psychological Symptoms Of Severe Panic Attacks

The psychological symptoms of severe panic attacks are what are known as the “root of the problem.” If not for the psychological symptoms that occur the physical symptoms would never occur at all; in fact it’s the psychological symptoms that really get the ball rolling and it’s the physical symptoms of severe panic attacks that kind of turn severe panic attacks into a vicious cycle.

These symptoms of severe panic attacks include a huge set of illogical fears that, no matter if the person suffering from the attack knows that they are irrational, just will not go away. These fears include things like a fear of dying, a fear of losing control or even the fear of “going crazy.” These episodes can last anywhere from only ten seconds to up to ten minutes in more severe cases.

There are other psychological symptoms of panic severe attacks as well. Many people report that during a panic attack they experience a feeling of “unreality” or a sense of deep detachment from oneself, a symptom of a severe panic attack called depersonalization.

The reason the symptoms of severe panic attacks seem so much worse is because there are so many of them that are experienced at the same time. For people with mild panic attacks they experience only four or more of the above symptoms. People with moderate panic attacks only suffer from between 5 and nine of these symptoms. But when it comes to severe panic attack symptoms and symptoms, suffers unfortunately experience ten or more symptoms of panic attacks, almost three times as many as someone with mild panic attacks.
