If you are suffering from social anxiety disorder and you also happen to be a smoker, consider quitting. Most people know that cigarettes contain nicotine. Nicotine is a stimulant which is the last thing someone suffering from social anxiety needs. The object is to stay calm when dealing with social anxiety, not excitable.

Coffee drinkers might also suffer in the same way that a smoker does in public situations. This is because coffee contains a great deal of caffeine which is also a stimulant. Consider drinking an alternative beverage in the morning, or consider switching to decaffeinated coffee. Once you eliminate the extra caffeine you will hopefully notice that the symptoms of social anxiety disorder will ease up a little bit.

Many people think drinking alcohol is a great way to calm the nerves. In fact, people might even consider drinking before having to deal with a public situation that could be extremely uncomfortable. This is not a good idea as alcohol can exaggerate the feelings of social anxiety disorder and should be avoided to help ease the burden.
