Did you know that you can actually work to prevent some forms of clinical depression? While many types of depression are unavoidable, there are some types of depression which it is thought can be avoided. For instance, Seasonal Affective Disorder usually occurs in the dark winter months, but you might be able to offset your risk of suffering from this condition.

In fact, some studies are beginning to find that there are many different ways in which a person can offset their risk of clinical depression and it has nothing to do with taking prescription medications.

Five Steps To Stop Feeling Depressed

Here are a few things which you can do that might help you to better deal with your overall feelings of anxiety, sadness and stress and could help you to avoid becoming clinically depressed.

1. Get outdoors for at least a half hour each and every day, or as many as you can. In the case of SAD, or seasonal affective disorder, even if the weather is cold and wet, your body can do really well and actually responds to the daylight, even if it’s hidden behind clouds. This can help to “reset” your hormonal body clock and help you to feel better over time.

2. Exercise is thought to help your body produce hormones, such as the essential endorphins your body needs to feel good. Endorphins can help you to block off pain and can offer you a euphoric feeling, so making sure to get enough exercise is essential to an overall sense of well being and avoiding clinical depression.

3. Watch your weight. Many people who are overweight are depressed and, while nobody wants to be out of shape, it could have more to do with the way their body’s encourage the production of essential hormones such as serotonin, which help to offer a feeling of well being.

4. Consider an herbal supplement, which is a natural depression treatment. They will help to stimulate your body to make the essentials – serotonin, dopamine and endorphins, as well as offer you a great night of sleep so that your hormones become balanced easily, effectively and safely so that you can have a healthier overall attitude.

5. Watch your stress levels and if you’re feeling stressed, it’s time to begin a de-stressing routine to help yourself avoid clinical depression. Sometimes, the body and mind become overwhelmed and this can cause all kinds of problems in the body, not the least of which is depression, so help offset your risks and work to ease your stress and tension.

While taking these steps may not completely stop your risk of suffering from clinical depression, when you make these changes in your life, little by little, you might find that you’re a healthier, happier you who doesn’t have to worry about clinical depression.
