Effective Panic Attack Treatments and Techniques

Panic attack treatments have recently become so much in demand, what with the hectic and stressful lifestyles that so many people live these days. The good news is that there is no shortage of available treatments today, but the bad news is that not all of these are equally effective.

Recognizing the Signs of an Impending Panic Attack

While searching for a good panic attack treatment is definitely necessary, it is just as important to be able to recognize the signs of an impending panic attack so that you can be adequately prepared for it when it happens.

One good thing that has resulted from the constantly increasing number of reported panic attacks is the increased efforts from the medical community to find solutions to this problem. Today, the most recommended panic attack treatments are cognitive-behavioral therapy and the use of medication.

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy

This method of panic attack treatment is preferred by many patients and medical professionals alike because it does not use any kind of artificial substances and chemicals. This means that there is absolutely no risk of negative side effects, which is a possibility when you use medication or other forms of panic attack treatments. In this procedure, a qualified therapist talks to the patient in a series of sessions, helping the individual manage the factors that causes his panic attacks in a more constructive way. During the sessions, the patient also learns calming techniques such as meditation, breathing and muscle relaxation. Although some people may be hesitant to see a therapist due to the social stigma attached to it, you have to realize that this particular attack treatment has one of the highest success rates not only in stopping panic attacks but also in preventing future instances from taking place as well.

Use of Medication

Despite the known side effects that come with many panic attack medications, psychiatrists continue to prescribe them to patients especially to those with the more severe cases because they do help quite well in the management of panic symptoms. Selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors or SSRIs are the most commonly prescribed panic medications, particularly for cases that are mild to moderate. These include brands such as Prozac, Zoloft, Celexa and Paxil. Antidepressants like Tofranil, on the other hand, are also effective for reducing anxiety levels and for decreasing the instances of panic attacks. Most panic medications do deliver fast results but they are also usually quite addictive. They are also not considered to be long-term solutions because the panic attacks typically return just a few weeks after the treatment period. There is also Provanax a natural panic attack treatment that is another option.

For best results, it is advisable to seek professional medical opinion first before trying out any kind of panic attack treatment on your own.
