Anxiety Attacks and Their Effect on Your Life

People often ignore anxiety attacks, dismissing them as an ordinary side effect of stress and a busy lifestyle. On one hand, it is perfectly normal to feel anxious about certain things or events from time to time. For example, you might experience an anxiety attack shortly before being interviewed for a job, or when you are about to perform on stage in front of a huge audience.

On the other hand, some anxiety attacks can escalate into greater problems, especially if they start to occur more frequently and without any event to trigger them. When this happens, your life can get severely disrupted.

Anxiety disorder can be very detrimental for many reasons. For starters, it will not only affect you, but the people around you as well. As the panic and anxiety attacks get worse, you will eventually be unable to perform your job properly and so your career will suffer. You won’t be able to interact well with people and so your social life will suffer.You may also begin to experience social anxiety disorder.

You may not even be able to attend to the needs of your family and so even that may suffer. Unfortunately, there is no 100% guaranteed cure for anxiety attacks. You will simply have to do your best to prevent them from happening, and to be as strong as possible and withstand them when they come.

How Anxiety Attacks Take Place

Whether you foresee it coming or not, most anxiety attacks begin with a tightness in the chest, heart palpitations, nausea and hyperventilation. Some attacks are very mild while others are so severe the individual might think he is suffering from a heart attack.

These attacks also vary in duration — some stop after just a few minutes while others take up to an hour or even more before subsiding. It is the long, frequent attacks that cause people to feel scared, thinking that they might die right then and there. These are also the attacks that require the use of medication in order to be prevented.

Anxiety attacks can happen to anybody, including those who are perfectly healthy physically, mentally and emotionally. For this reason, it would be a good idea to at least familiarize yourself with the different symptoms of the disorder even if you don’t currently have an anxiety issue.

Plus understanding even just a little bit, what someone with anxiety goes through on a daily basis, is worth learning about so you can be at least supportive if necessary.
