Adult Attention Deficit Disorder

You Don’t Have To Be A Child To Have ADD or ADHD

ADD is a common condition that occurs in millions of children all over the world but did you know that there is also adult attention deficit disorder? Adults who suffer from ADD experience the same symptoms generally found in children — inability to concentrate on tasks, failure to focus on chores, constant procrastination and lack of any organizational skills.

However, it is not as common as how it afflicts children. Studies show that only about 2-4% of all adults suffer from this condition.

The people who are most likely to suffer from adult attention deficit disorder are those that have had the condition since childhood. As a matter of fact, approximately 50% of children who have ADD will carry the condition with them all the way into adulthood.

Lack of Proper Diagnosis of Adult ADD Symptoms

Many people believe that ADD and ADHD is a condition that only occurs in children. This is why so many cases of adult attention deficit disorder remain undiagnosed and untreated. Also, ADD is a fairly new disorder in the eyes of the general public, and some people still don’t consider it as a medical condition. So if they start to experience the symptoms of adult ADD, they simply shrug it off instead of going to the doctor for a proper diagnosis and treatment.

Unfortunately, adult attention deficit disorder is not something that goes away when you ignore it. Instead, the symptoms will just grow worse over time until it comes to the point where the condition will prevent you from efficiently performing your everyday tasks and chores. To prevent this from happening, it is essential that you consult the right medical professionals as soon as you notice symptoms.

ADD Treatment

Adult ADD is treatable, sometimes even without the need for professional treatment. Some adults, upon realizing that they have ADD, simply take it upon themselves to make changes to their lifestyle and make a conscious effort to focus their attention on tasks.

For more serious cases of adult attention deficit disorder, there are certain medications that can be taken to improve focus and concentration. However, these medications may only be taken under doctor’s orders so you should consult with your doctor in order to find out which medications will work best for your condition.

There are also natural supplements for ADD and ADHD so if you feel you have a problem but not necessarily wanting or requiring doctor intervention these types of natural supplements may be of assistance.
